BETH WENSTROM, violin

Beth Wenstrom, born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, graduated from the New England Conservatory with a Master’s degree in violin performance under the tutelage of Lucy Stoltzman. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin Conservatory in 2003 where she studied both modern and baroque violin with Marilyn McDonald. As a period performer, Beth has performed in with Apollo's Fire, The King's Noyse and the New York Collegium as well as the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra as principle second. Beth served as concertmaster for the Oberlin production of Alcina under the direction of Jeannette Sorrell and has also performed in opera orchestras directed by Robert Mealy. As a modern violinist, Beth's distinguished honors include winning both the Musicorda 2002 Violin Competition and the 2002 Music Teachers National Association Ohio Competition, performing in Oberlin’s Honors Recital and also performing with the Fairbanks Symphony. She has also spent much time in Blue Hill, at the Kneisel Hall festival in the summers, and teaching violin in the winter. Beth is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at SUNY Stony Brook.
